About Belleville Fire Department:
Belleville Fire Department proudly protects 35000 + people living in an area of
3.4 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily
residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a
paid status.
The Township uses direct phone communications and the 911 system
(through the Police Dept) to receive calls.
There are three districts covering the Township, and the ladder
company is a Quint, so it is assigned to all responses within its district, with
backup provided by engine companies when needed. There is an established hydrant
system the department uses for its water supply, and each apparatus carries at
least 500 gallons of water, with Engine Co. # 2 and 3 holding a 40 gallon
onboard foam system.
A full response for all structures, alarms and fire calls consists of
Eng co.# 2 and # 3, Truck # 1, Battalion, and the EMS unit. Single district
alarms are handled by individual companies.
In addition to fire calls, all firefighters are certified EMT-D and
perform first responder duties. Cardiac Defibrillators are carried on both
ambulance units, and in each Engine Company.
Extrication equipment is carried by Ladder # 1 and Engine # 2.
More advanced haz-mat situations are co-ordinated through the Nutley
Fire Dept. Hazardous Materials Response Team, who handles all situations in
Essex county when required (excepting the City of Newark, who maintains their
own HazMat Division)
The department's radio frequency is 154.220mhz with a PL of 141.3.
The Belleville Fire Department consists of two engine companies, one
ladder company, and provides full time EMS service to the township with at least
one (two firefighter/emt manned) ambulance, two when manpower is available.
